20 Questions with Frootibeauty
With more exciting blogs on the scene, what better way to introduce them than with the return of our 20 Questions feature. Hopefully every Friday will be pay homage to a beauty blogger you should follow, all of which have been cherry picked.
This week is all about Safiyah who fronts Frootibeauty. They say small things come in good packages and Safiyah is certainly one. Not only is she a breathe of fresh air in the world of make-up artistry (Illamasqua’s Creative Director Alex Box is very fond of her work), her blog is a revelation in how to create her signature looks, plus she’s a doll!
Without further ado, let’s welcome Safiyah…
Why did you start your blog?
I had a lot of free time when I was working one day a week and decided to start a blog to keep a track of the products I bought and used to review for others and also to do make-up looks to share.
How long have you been blogging for?
Two years, five months, one week and one day to be exact! (I have a calendar countdown thing on my blog.)
What do you enjoy most about blogging?
I love sharing my experience (and knowledge in some cases) with others and love that people actually read it/comment or talk to me about blog posts when I meet them in real life. I also love that the friends I talk to most these days are the blogger friends I’ve met up with.
What frustrates you most about blogging?
Not being able to find time to blog in busy weeks or not getting much feedback on a blog post (usually a review) that I’ve taken time to write out too! I also don’t like some of the snobbiness I’ve encountered at some blogger events…that’s not cool.
How much time a week do you spend on your blog/reading other people’s blogs?
I try to blog at least once a week but sometimes don’t get the time to so I feel really guilty; so then I read other bloggers posts to make up for not being able to blog when I can.
What advice do you have for aspiring bloggers?
Be true to your own blog style/personality, don’t write “follow me”/ link to your blog everywhere, and use social media to gain more followers.
What other interests do you have?
Believe it or not I graduated in Nutrition so have a fair amount of passion left for health and exercise, I do also enjoy travelling (especially finding other beauty brands I can’t find in the UK).
How many bottles of nail varnish do you own?
I have no idea! They’re all in a huge Sleek bag and I have never counted them.
Do you set yourself a shopping budget, or do you purchase on an as-and-when basis?
I try to budget as much as possible but to be honest it never happens and usually my money goes on make-up for myself or my kit or beauty gifts; so I guess as and when basis.
What is your favourite make-up brand, and why?
It’s a tie between Urban Decay and Illamasqua; both are quirky in their own way but similar in not following the “norm” of other make-up brands.
Do you ever leave the house without wearing make-up?
Very occasionally I do, or skimp by just using concealer and mascara but generally no, I’ve become too used to it and usually have enough time to apply thankfully!
What is your favourite beauty product and why?
Ooh that’s a hard one; I think it’d have to be the Naked palette because it has all the colours you need to suit any skin type and also comes with a brush and an awesome trial sized primer (sorry if that’s cheating!)
What is your favourite nail varnish of all time? (yep, only one!)
I’m not too sure to be honest! I’m not usually a nail polish fanatic but I tend to wear Bourjois Beige Glamour a lot more than the others.
Tell us about the best holiday you’ve ever been on.
The best holiday was probably when I went Dubai in 2011; the weather was sweltering hot even at night but it was a great mix of being chilled and doing great activities.
What would be your ideal day off?
Waking up with enough sleep, meeting up with fellow beauty addicts, eating yummy food, drinking mocktails and finishing off with a nice shisha.
What is your favourite TV show?
I have to say Modern Family is because it’s hilarious and has a character everyone can relate to.
What music do you enjoy listening to?
Usually R&B/Pop music, but anything that sounds good really.
What is your favourite food?
Ooh, I love grilled/roasted food best, the more herbs the better! (but not so spicy) so Turkish, Arabic and some Indian food.
Where would you most like to visit in the world? (money no object)
I’d like to go Malaysia as I’ve heard amazing things about it but also have heard that you can’t just go to one place there.
Tell us a secret…
I’m like a magpie and get easily distracted by anything shiny!
Thank you, Safiyah. Will send some cupcakes your way soon! Don’t forget to check out her blog Frootibeauty.
