20 Questions with Lippy & a LBD
2011
Today’s blogger is Georgia from Lippy And A LBD I really admire her no-nonsense approach to the politics of blogging and she makes me hoot with laughter. OK, so she’s not really interested in nail varnish, but I’m going to let that one go. Check out her blog here - it’s a real mix of beauty, fashion, shopping, food and fab photos.

1) Why did you start your blog?
I just love attention. No not really, I get embarrassed when people sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to me so I’m not an attention whore. I was bored of just reading blogs and wanted to get involved in the community. Up until recently it was a great community to be involved in. A lot of people have been removing their blogs in the past few month because of bullying amongst blog owners and hate from random people. Not nice. Woaaaah ultimately dragged the tone down already.
2) How long have you been blogging for?
I have had a few blogs that no longer exist. I had a fairly successful home design blog for about 2 year that I got bored of and deleted one day. I started a beauty blog in December or January because it seemed to be the most community driven. My blog has recently kind of moved away from beauty and in to lifestyle. Actually its just a place I ramble now, I got sick of having constraints on what I could post.
3) What do you enjoy most about blogging?
The friends I have made. Everyone says that don’t they? God this is a dull interview for people to read, sorry. I think I just enjoy having somewhere to chat where people actually seem to care what I say. A conversation about lipstick shades in real life sends people to sleep, here people talk for hours about satin vs creme finish.
4) What frustrates you most about blogging?
Oh God, I could talk for hours about this. Top of my hate list at the moment are the people who are starting blogs because they think they can get free things. They are normally really young and spend half their time posting anonymous hate (which isn’t so anonymous with IP trackers) because they are jealous of more successful blogs. And they spend the other half of their time asking people how they got “free stuff”. The other group that annoy me are the bloggers who tell you what you can and can’t post. I guess they don’t know that blogger has an unfollow button for blogs you don’t like?
5) How much time a week do you spend on your blog / reading other people’s blogs?
I read blogs every day which is probably quite sad, I have no life clearly. I never schedule posts or plan so it means I don’t have a set blogging time, I just blog when and where I feel like it. I spend way more time on other people’s blogs than on my own which shows haha.
6) What advice do you have for aspiring beauty bloggers?
Be confident in yourself and know that 9 times out of 10 any hate is just jealousy. Of course it could be that your just an arsehole and no one likes you, but still. And don’t blog for “free products”, people will know if you are a scrounger.
7) What other hobbies/interests do you have?
Sodomy. Chains. Whips. The usual… No not really. Car boot sales, going to my health spa, shopping, charity shops, interior design, watching documentaries, cooking, playing red dead redemption, talking, bitching, tweeting, crap tv, watching films, going out for meals, travelling. Loads of stuff, most of it not very interesting or unusual.
8 ) How many bottles of nail varnish do you own?
About 5 if that. I really HATE painting my nails. I’m so uninterested in NOTD and nail art posts, sometimes to get to sleep I look at “fnckyeahprettynails” blog. That’s a joke. Just a bad one.
I always have my nails painted, I’m not a tramp or anything, I just hate doing it. I’m also a serial nail varnish picker which makes it even worse. The other day I spend ages painting my nails with a silver OPI polish, watched a film and then looked at my nails and I only had the thumbs and one little finger with polish still on.
9) Do you set yourself a shopping budget, or do you purchase on an as-and-when basis?
I only buy clothes three or four times a year but I buy loads over a month or so each time. Once in Sep/oct for winter and autumn. January for spring. May for summer. And in July I go to visit my parents and my Mam and Gran take me to the Metrocentre for a massive haul because they think I look impoverished. Which I probably do to be fair.
I don’t have the greatest budget because I’m still at uni. If you like shopping I wouldn’t advise uni, 6 years with no money doesn’t fill you with the greatest thrills.
10) What is your favourite make-up brand, and why?
I really like Benefit, they are so grossly overpriced though. However, I have had quite a few products for over a year, use them every day and still haven’t hit pan. I also like Mac but who doesn’t? I don’t think they are really that overpriced now the high street is taking the piss with its make-up prices. A few pound more can buy you a Mac lipstick instead of a Rimmel one.
11) Do you ever leave the house without wearing make-up?
Not unless I really have to catch the post office or something. I even wear makeup to the gym. I don’t wear a lot of makeup day to day but still, make-up in a jacuzzi is a little extreme.
12) What is your favourite beauty product and why?
Hmmm. Avon Glimmersticks, they are seriously cheap, long lasting, good quality and twist up so don’t need sharpening.
13) What is your favourite nail varnish of all time? (yep, only one!)
I have no preference. I actually couldn’t care less. I pick the first one up I see and paint my nails that colour until I lose the polish.
14) Tell us about the best holiday you’ve ever been on.
You would be too bored if I told you. Short story, we went around France and Spain and followed cathedrals and cities that the Templars had influence in. And on the way we went on an underground safari. Is anyone still awake?
15) What would be your ideal day off?
I take my jet to a tropical beach to top up my tan. Or I just sleep all day which is more likely.
16) What is your favourite TV show?
Corrie orrie orrie woaaaoohhohhhohhhohhh (to the tune of ruby ruby ruby). That was Coronation Street to anyone who didn’t get it from the really clear song. I love watching Corrie and laughing at how ridiculous it is that I enjoy it.
17) What music do you enjoy listening to?
Arcade Fire, Stone Roses, Kasabian, The Killers, CCR etc, etc. I like loads of stuff but this genre gets the most plays. I’m a lego haircut and polka dot dress away from being a walking “indie wannabe”.
18) What is your favourite food?
Oh Jesus, anything! I’m much skinnier than I should be because all I do is eat. In fact right now I’m trying to get this finished so I can have a raid of the fridge. Food shopping, eating and cooking (doesn’t quite work in that order) are some of my favourite things to do. I just broke and went to get a sausage roll, I wish you could see how much food is stuck in my Mac keyboard. It would feed a family of 6 for a week.
19) Where would you most like to visit in the world? (money no object)
There is a city underwater somewhere near Japan that is older than the pyramids. Its kind of like atlantis but real and not made of gold etc. So really its nothing like Atlantis expect for the underwater bit. Jesus I am dull. I also want to go see some of the tombs in the valley of the kings but all the good ones are closed to the public. Look, I’ll shut up now since everyone is bored out of their minds. I did want to go to Antarctica but they banned the use of dogs and we all know how not using dogs went for… hahha, no one knows do they? *Shuts up*
20) Tell us a secret…
I had a friend in school who didn’t know that her dad isn’t her dad. She must be fairly stupid though because she had to change her second name in reception to her “dads” name.
Thank you, Georgia! If you have a blog and would like to participate in 20 Questions, please send us an email to the usual address.
