I’ve never been to Germany. I know that’s weird, seeing as it’s not exactly far, but I’ve just never managed to get there. I do remember watching the monumental occasion of the Berlin wall coming down, marked somewhat bizarrely by a poodle-permed David Hasslehoff bouncing up and down,
singing his latest (s)hit. He was big in Germany, wasn’t he?
So, maybe I shouldn’t be shocked that Mavala’s Berlin polish is the same kind of colour as a concrete wall. Hmm. That doesn’t make it a bad thing actually, just rather, erm…industrial. Mind you, greys are all the rage right now, what with Nubar’s Fortress collection, and the love so many of us had for Rococo’s Utility.
Application of this was absolutely fantastic. I know I’ve whinged about the mini size of the polishes, and we all know I like a large brush and handle
combination but in actual fact, this was one of the better behaved Mavalas I have used. Two coats and I had glossy, opaque grey creamy nails. It is an extremely thick consistency, making me think that it could be a good option to use for Konad.
It is darker and a lot less blue than the Rococo that I tried recently. I prefer the lighter greys if I’m honest, but this doesn’t detract from the fact that this is a really nice colour. Maybe better for winter?
I am kind of surprised to see this in a Spring collection, but then again, we have had utterly dreary weather of late so in actual fact, this could be a perfect Spring polish, if only to match the appalling weather outside.
Any way, I’ve digressed a bit. Who’d have thought you’d end up reading about David Hasselhoff, German history, and nail varnish all in one blog post?
Berlin is from Mavala’s Harmony collection and was kindly sent to me for review. Mavala polishes cost £3.66 for 5ml and can be purchased here, or you can call 01732 459 412 for your local stockists.
Oh now that’s right up my street! Lovely xxx
Very pretty. Never heard of that brand.

Oh my gosh I love it! I want concrete nails!
It really, really suits you. I must get some greys. I have only one. Isn’t that pathetic?
I believe the Hoff is still big in the Vaterland.
I spent a few weeks in Germany long, long ago and it was highly clean compared to the UK (1973) and enormously efficient.
The traffic lights were set so that if you caught them right you could go through the whole city (Hamburg) on a green wave (gruene Welle). And sooooooooo clean. Oh, I said that already…..
Love this grey on you. I have quite a few greys but don’t wear them often. Too many other polishes to use. I agree with you about David Hasselhoff. Ick big time!
