Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet: Grand Cru & Nude-ist

If you’ve not caught the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Matte bug, then all I can ask is why the hell not?

The matte lip colours released a few months back are nothing short of fantastic. In fact they are a dream come true. Bold shades with matte finish and long-lasting colour that do not crack or peel in the slightest. They are unbelievably light on the lips with a velvety texture and non-drying formula and they don’t smudge either.

Grand Cru* (a dark burgundy red with pink undertones) and Nude-ist* (a rosewood, naturally looking nude) are two ‘new’ shades for the summer. Actually they aren’t completely new as they were both available exclusively at online retailer Very.co.uk but now they have been reunited with the Rouge Edition Velvet Matte family making it an even eight shades collectively.

I want to draw your attention to Grand Cru. You know me, I am a wreck when I’m presented with a crimson red lip colour and Grand Cru ignites that familiar feeling within me (no, not that). Some of the other shades require layering for optimum colour but Grand Cru rolls deep – just the way I like it.

(This picture was taken on my phone – the mess behind adds to the effect of a spontaneous shot taken for the blog.)

In one coat it’s deliciously bold. The wonderful thing with these matte lip colours are they are buildable without drying or flaking during application. I also don’t bother with a lip liner – there’s no feathering with this baby. Grand Cru definitely turned a few heads when I was out on my grocery food shopping adventures in the day and stayed on my lips till 1 in the morning.

Do you know something else? Grand Cru is a deadly dupe for Hourglass’s Icon (my favourite red!) except it will only set you back £8.99 to Icon’s £21 price tag.

I will always love Bourjois for bridging the gap between high-end quality and high street, and for bringing cat-walk trends down to earth. These new releases push them further up the scale.

The Rouge Edition Velvet lip colours are available from Boots and Superdrug stores nationwide and online.

  • Lovely shade, I’m intrigued! I’m a huge fan of the Lime Crime Velvetines, so I’m definitely hunting for other brands’ similar products, so I can broaden my color range :)

  • I love the Lime Crime Velvetines, Caroline! These are definitely an excellent alternative with high performance. It sounds like I’m talking about a car! x

  • I was hoping to see a photo of the nude too! The red looks amazing on you, I can’t wait to try one of these!
