OK, it’s been ages since a blogger was given a grilling with our 20 Questions so who better to hit you between the eyes than Aysha from Truly Madly Beauty. I’ve been following Aysha’s blog for Lord knows how long. Not only is she a babe, she’s a hoot on Twitter and Instagram, with her moody kitty cat as her faithful support act. Aysha is big on nail art so do check out her efforts. So, let’s get cracking, Aysha…

Why did you start your blog?
I first discovered the wonderful world of blogs about 4 years ago, before then I had no idea they existed at all! Anyhoos after about a year of reading and commenting on many of my favourite ones I thought it was something I would like to give a go myself :) Also I think folks were getting tired of me going on about ‘this’ product or ‘that’ polish, I could just see their eyes glaze over, so Truly Madly Beauty was born and it’s definitely one of the best decisions I’ve made as I love it so!

How long have you been blogging for?
I’ve been blogging for about 3 years now. Gosh doesn’t seem that long, time really does fly! :D

What do you enjoy most about blogging?
For me it’s most definitely the wonderful people I’ve met through blogging. The blogging community is so lovely and I’ve actually made some really amazing friendships through it. It’s really great finding fellow bloggers as obsessed about all things make-up and beauty as you and realising, hey maybe I’m not so weird after all!

What frustrates you most about blogging?
The affect it has on my wallet! Bwaha! Seeing so many puuurdy things just makes me want to but it ALL! My current wish list is longer than my arm and growing lengthier by the day. I try to justify a lot of my purchases by stating that they are for “blogging purposes” of course…which is erm… 100% true *side eye* ;)

What do your family and friends think of your blog?
Only a few of my closest friends and family actually know about my blog. To be honest I quite like it that way, I almost see blogging as my second life away from reality, call it my 007/superhero complex ;) The folks who do know about it though have expressed positive thoughts which is lovely and my mum is of course my biggest fan! She carries a wad of my cards everywhere with her and pimps my blog whenever she can – bless her!

How frequently do you post?
Well I work full-time so I just blog whenever I can really. I like the fact that my blog is just my hobby and the perfect escapism for me. I think if it got too much or if I felt pressured to blog I’d lose my love for it, so I do like to try and do a few posts a week if my blogging mojo is there :)

What’s your day job?
I work in the pharmacy industry. For the past 6 years I’ve been working in community pharmacy, however I’ve recently been offered another job which will be more behind the scenes pharmacy which I’m very excited about!

How many bottles of nail varnish do you own?
Oh my good lord…well, if you’re familiar with my blog then you may know why this question has me breaking out in a sweat and palpitations…I like nail polish. A LOT. It’s my addiction. The last time I organised my polishes was about half a year ago and then it was just under 200…I think that figure may have doubled since then…but they were all for blogging purposes, blogging purposes I tells you!!!!

Do you set yourself a budget, or do you buy on an as-and-when basis?
Hmmm not really though perhaps I should where polish is concerned! Of course when you see so many pretty things on blogs it takes a lot of restraining to stop oneself from running out and buying ASAP, but I do try to be sensible. I also try to use up current foundations before trying out something new.

What is your favourite make-up brand, and why?
Well after having a sift though my make-up stash I’m seeing a lot of Bourjois and Benefit so I’d say those two! I think the quality of high street make-up is so great you honestly don’t need to spend a fortune. With regards to nail polish my favourite brands would be China Glaze & Models Own :)

Do you ever leave the house without wearing make-up?
You know if you’d asked me this a year ago I would’ve said absolutely not! However over time I’ve become more comfortable in my own skin and actually love wearing light make-up. Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoy going all out at times yet I do like just going for a bit of tinted moisturiser and eye liner. Oh yeah black eye liner, that’s my holy grail product I can’t do without, I can have a completely bare face but whether it be a cat eye flick or quick waterline job I can’t do without eye liner!

What’s your favourite beauty treatment to indulge in?
Ooooh I love me a good pamper sesh so it would have to be either a full body massage or a facial. Both are so wonderfully relaxing and I do try to indulge in one or the other at least once a month.

Tell us about the best holiday you’ve been on.
I’m not the most travelled person when it comes to far distance places though this is something I plan on changing in the near future! However my most recent holiday was a Med Cruise with my family which was pretty blooming amazing. Not only did we get to see many amazing places in one holiday including Sicily, Athens, Turkey, Crete before finishing off in Rome but my God all the amazing food on the cruise…I still fantasise about it. I definitely plan on doing another cruise again in the future!

What would be your ideal day off?
Ooooh my ideal day off would be a day spent in a lovely relaxing spa with a good book and indulging in lots of pampering treats!

What is your favourite TV show?
I know I may be in the minority here but I just cannot stand reality TV, I refuse to succumb to it. I’m more of a film lover and would most often choose a good film over TV but I do have a weakness for the historical dramas. Rome and The Tudors in particular were most enjoyable, completely for the gripping drama mind you and NOT the beautiful lead actors…*cough*

What music do you enjoy listening to?
Pretty much everything though I’m not the biggest R&B fan which seems to shock many but its just not my cup of tea. I love anything with a good beat to it that you can get up and dance to, sometimes I like to venture back to my hardcore rock days with a good dose of metal. (You’re my rock chick sister! – Sheenie)

What is your favourite food?
Seekh kebabs fresh off the BBQ wrapped in naan bread and covered with lashings of hot sauce and melted cheese… Heaven. On. Earth! *drools*

Where would you most like to go in the world? (money no object)
If money is no object then it would have to be an around-the-world trip! Haha! Is that cheating? Vegas, Miami and Dubai would be definite stops though, I’ve heard fab things about all three.

Which 3 guests would you invite to dine with you and why?
Well if there’s one thing I love more than make-up/beauty it’s to laugh! So my 3 guests would be…Brad Garrett as he is absolutely hilarious, Will Smith because…well he’s Will Smith and lastly a women to even things out…hmmm…Dawn French! :D

Tell us a secret…
Oh my! Okay…at one point of my life I wanted to be an air hostess and I actually possess a cabin crew qualification! So if pharmacy doesn’t work out you may see me on your next flight! Tea? Coffee? But that’s a wee bit boring isn’t it…? Trying to think up a juicier secret…Okay, we all have a secret weird crush right? Mine? Alan Rickman! Yes I know he’s old enough to be my great granddad but there’s just something about him! And yup I even liked him a lot as Snape. And on that note I shall creep away slowly…Adieu. ;)

Thank you, Aysha for letting us learn more about you and your blogging side. I urge you to follow Truly Madly Beauty and Aysha on Twitter if you don’t already.

It’s Friday, and on Just Nice Things it can only mean one thing – it’s time for 20 Questions with a blogger. Meet green-eyed beauty Sharmin, the living doll behind PinkSweetSz. Perfectly petite and from the east end of London, Sharmin is one of the sweetest girls the world of blogging has introduced to me. She also possesses a wicked streak. Let’s find out more about the face of PinkSweetSz…

Why did you start your blog?
I started blogging when I became obsessed with watching YouTube videos in 2010. I wanted to do something of the sort, but not put myself out there completely. I then discovered blogs, and havent looked back since.

How long have you been blogging for?
I have been blogging since August 2010 so its coming up to 3 years now. Time really does pass by so quickly; it feels like last year I started up my little blog. I do take a lot of breaks when life seems to get on top of me, but that just makes it all the more fun when I return.

What do you enjoy most about blogging?
It’s definitely meeting new friends. Since starting blogging I have met so many like minded people and I know its a cheesy thing to say but it’s honestly the best thing about blogging. The friends I have made through blogging are great, such as the beautiful Sheenie herself!

What frustrates you most about blogging?
I think this is a more recent issue than not, but blogging has become really really competitive. When I started there wasn’t much competing and bitchiness going on. Now blogging is definitely a hierarchical system.

What do your family and friends think of your blog?
My friends love my blog. They always take such interest in everything blog related I talk about. They don’t all understand the concept which is why they find it all the more interesting. One of my best friends has even started her own blog, specifically for Hijabi fashion, as she would love to show the world that it is possible to look fashionable, yet modest at the same time. (Keepingitunderwraps.blogspot.com)

How frequently do you post?
I try to blog as often as I can but I schedule them for twice a week. I have been away from blogging for a while so it’s taking me a while to catch up, but hopefully I will be blogging a lot more frequently now.

What’s your day job?
I am actually an English student so career wise I haven’t started yet, but I do work part time as a beauty consultant in Boots. If you ever need any information on No7 I’m your girl!

How many bottles of nail varnish do you own?
The last time I counted (ages ago) I had 130 bottles of nail varnish, so I assume it has grown significantly since then. If I took a guess I would say I had 160 ish (I’m hoping it’s not much over that). I actually always wear the same few shades but I’m a hoarder! I like building up collections of the same brand! Tut tut!

Do you set yourself a budget, or do you buy on an as-and-when basis?
I don’t really ever set myself a budget. It’s something I should do really. Im more of a shop till your card gets rejected kind of girl.

What is your favourite make-up brand, and why?
My favourite make-up brand of all time without a doubt is Illamasqua. I love the brand’s ethics and all the stories behind their collections. I love how the people who work for Illamasqua are so passionate about the brand too. The work they do with charities just amazes me, such as the Sophie Lancaster foundation. The fact that they make amazing products is just a plus point. I love the brand first, but their make-up products are also the bomb!

Do you ever leave the house without wearing make-up?
I actually don’t feel comfortable leaving the house without make-up although my skin isn’t too bad, purely because I’ve been wearing make-up for so long I feel like a zombie without it.

What’s your favourite beauty treatment to indulge in?
It’s not a treatment as such, but a long hot bath with essential oils, and bath salts, a face mask on and a few scented candles. That’s when all my stresses are forgotten and I can just have a little ‘me’ time.

Tell us about the best holiday you’ve been on.
The best holiday I went on was has to be back home [Bangladesh] last year. I went for two whole months after previously going 5 years before that. It was great seeing all the family, and it was also my first Ramadan and Eid there. The whole atmosphere was buzzing. I’m a real hometown girl.

What would be your ideal day off?
My ideal day would be to swan off to a posh spa with all my girls and have a crazy pamper day! Now, wouldn’t that be amazing?

What is your favourite TV show?
To be honest I don’t watch that much telly but (Sheenie, please close your eyes) I do actually love The Only Way Is Essex. I am a sucker for trash TV.

What music do you enjoy listening to?
When it comes to music I listen to just about anything. I am really varied in music, it just depends on my mood, Although a lot of people do say that I can’t get my head out of the past, so I guess I listen to some old school tunes a lot.

What is your favourite food?
This is a bit of a weird one but my favourite food in the whole world has got to be sour raw mangoes. My mouth is just watering thinking about them.I love shredding them and adding a few spices, and making it almost into a chutney. BEST THING EVER! Oh and burritos. Gotta love burritos. Oh and…I could actually write a whole blog on food, so I will stop there.

Where would you most like to go in the world? (money no object)
My dream destination ever since I was a child was to go Bora Bora! It just looks like heaven on earth, and I have sworn to myself I will go there at some point in my life. Which ever lucky man marries me can take the pleasure of taking me there!

Which 3 guests would you invite to dine with you and why?
Well, if you mean bloggers then I would take you Sheenie, Priya and Leanne so I can watch you all fight over each other, just sit there and laugh.

Tell us a secret…
Umm… I buy knickers from the kids section, but no one needs to know that. If you ever see me at an event, just know that I am probably wearing little kiddies knickers!

Thank you so much, Sheenie for allowing me to be all over your blog today! It was a pleasure answering the questions! If you want to know more about me head on over to my blog! x

Damn! This week have I got a hottie for you on 20 Questions. In fact, I can’t cope! It’s Priya of Beautywowza, mistress of two blogs – the aforementioned and also style and fashion blog Portrait of a Dreamer. Priya is one of my all-time favourite bloggers and I have the pleasure of getting to know her outside of blogging too (oh my!) so pay attention to her because I don’t just pick any one for 20 Questions for the heck of it…

priyabeautywowza

Why did you start your blog?
I started Beautywowza after falling extremely ill and being diagnosed with a chronic illness. My skin suffered after being put on such harsh medication that my search for more natural skin care began.  I would often advise the models I worked with on what skincare they should use and after being inundated with ‘what should I use’ ‘Whats good for this problem’ emails, I decided to put my favourites, best finds and advise all in one place, a blog.

How long have you been blogging for?
I have been blogging for going on 5 years now. WOW, long time!!

What do you enjoy most about blogging?
I enjoy the freedom of being able to talk about what I love in my space without being dictated too.  I also enjoy the lovely feedback emails I get from my readers who are so supportive, It’s extremely humbling.

What frustrates you most about blogging?
Blogging has become such a wide thing now, and unfortunately there are many individuals who think starting a blog is just a way to get freebies…it’s beyond that!  Starting a blog and building relationships with brands and PR takes time. Another thing that grates on me is samples that end up on eBay. If you’re lucky enough to be sent samples from a brand or PR company, selling them on eBay really isn’t the way to go about getting your blog noticed.

How much time a week do you spend on your blog/reading other people’s blogs?
I spend as much time as I can and really do love reading other blogs to see what other bloggers are currently talking about and recommending. Having a full-time job means a varied amount of time weekly gets spent nurturing my blog and reading others.

What advice do you have for aspiring bloggers?
Don’t sell PR samples you are given on eBay. It takes time to build up contacts, so be patient and just write your blog for you, before you know it a following will build up.

What other interests do you have?
I am the classic fashionista with a shoe obsession. Looking, buying and wearing shoes is a hobby in itself for me.   I also love photography and eating out. I love food and am always wanting to try out new restaurants and cuisine.

How many bottles of nail varnish do you own?
Oh God, have a lot, nearing 100+.  I am extremely good and try have clear-outs on a regular basis but any beauty blogger will tell you it’s extremely hard to sort through such pretty things, being ruthless is in my nature but not when it comes to my precious beauty products.

Do you set yourself a shopping budget, or do you purchase on an as-and-when basis?
I am extremely lucky enough to get sent a lot of samples which keeps my blogging fingers busy, however if there is something I want I feel no way to go and get it, I don’t set myself a budget as I see it as an investment for myself and readers.

What is your favourite make-up brand, and why?
This is an extremely hard question as I love quite a few brands. I tend to use products that suit my skin so I don’t particularly stick to one brand. At the moment I absolutely love Estee Lauder’s BB cream, Laura Mercier’s new Baked Bronze Blush and Barry M’s new Lash Vegas mascara. All staples in my make-up bag at the moment.

Do you ever leave the house without wearing make-up?
Yes, all the time, I am very much a lover of skin and taking care of your skin. I can happily walk out of the house without any make-up on and feel confident. I think looking after your skin is so important; your canvas needs to be perfect before painting a masterpiece. Women should not rely on make-up to fix their skin, it should be used to enhance what you already have.

What is your favourite beauty product and why?
My all time favourite is thermal cleansing balm by Omorovicza. It’s the perfect skin fix – melts off make-up, cleanses the skin like no other cleanser I have tried and you can honestly see the difference once you have used it. I often use it as a treatment cleanser when my skin is having a paddy and needs a little TLC. I couldn’t recommend it enough.  Who’s tried it?

What is your favourite nail varnish of all time? (yep, only one!)
YSL La Laque Couture – Beige Leger.  It’s the perfect nude nail!!!

Tell us about the best holiday you’ve ever been on.
My parents always encouraged us to travel and took us on such lovely holidays when I was little so I don’t have one favourite holiday, I have many.  Visiting my mum and dad’s home towns (in India and Africa) was amazing. My girly holidays are always amazing too. I love travel in general and learning about different cultures.

What would be your ideal day off?
I am the ultimate diva and I’m sure you all know this, so my ideal day off would consist of a spa day with some kind of man slave to be their at my every whim, fetching me a glass of champs (red wine…champs just sounds better), cooking me dinner and doing anything else I wish. LOL!

What is your favourite TV show?
Criminal Minds…I just LOVE starring at Shemar Moore.

What music do you enjoy listening to?
I enjoy a mixture of music, all depends on my mood and situation at the time. I’m definitely an easy-listening kind of girl.

What is your favourite food?
For a food lover this questions is just awful, I like pretty much all food but if I had to choose I would say Thai and Mexican are my all time faves.

Where would you most like to visit in the world? (money no object)
Fiji, it’s the dream.

Tell us a secret
I see dead people!

Thank you, Priya. How amazing does she look in red lippy? I am responsible for that, you know. Don’t forget to visit Priya’s blogs and you can also follow her on Twitter at @priya_sonn.
