I don’t need a skin expert to tell me cleansing wipes are the devil’s work. They cause me great discomfort yet the sheer number of wipes on the market indicates the great British public love them and are indifferent about why they’re not great for your skin.

Well LA dermatologist expert Dr Murad has jumped into the baptism of fire with his own wipes and to emphasise they’re nothing like the conventional cleansing wipe, these ones actually treat the skin as well as cleanse.

For someone who preaches about caring for your skin not just from the outside but the inside too, why would he choose to go down the rocky road of wipes? Murad’s Clarifying Wipes promise to be a simple solution to treat, repair and protect the skin. The soft wipes clear pore-clogging sebum and are clinically proven to remove dirt, oil and bacteria, suitable for all skin types and safe enough to use for blemish-prone skins.

I was sent a few to try and in the interest of beauty and with some curiosity added on top, I pressed ahead with using these wipes. I used the wipes on make-up free days, the main concern being cleansing the skin without the obstacles of cosmetics.

I noticed they feel profoundly anti-septic and unlike the usual wipe, these ones don’t dry out. Thankfully my skin did not sting or feel as if it had been stripped harshly nor did it feel dry after use, but it did tingle a bit. What I’m most surprised about is how soft my skin feels from using a wipe.

A breakdown of the ingredients used show there is Witch Hazel to control oil and tighten pores, Algae Extract to regulate excess sebum production, Grape Seed Extract and Vitamin E to protect skin from damage, Menthol to cool and soothe irritated skin, Cucumber Extract to hydrate skin and minimise skin irritations and finally Calendula to calm inflamed blemishes.

The only times Dr Murad recommends using these wipes is after a flight or for a quick refresh. Basically, if you’re going to be lazy then go for these wipes which benefits the skin. The bottom line is, no wipe will ever be a substitute for proper cleansing and Dr Murad is keen to emphasise that. Well alrighty then, you’re not in my bad books, Dr Murad but at £9.95 for a pack of 30, it’s a costly investment for something you should only use occasionally and you’re screwed if you don’t seal the pack down securely.

I think it’s safe to say it is officially Christmas when the adverts start rolling in thick and fast. So with that in mind, it’s not premature to start shopping for gifts. One where you can’t go wrong is with Murad, the skincare specialists who have created five limited edition skincare gift sets. With Murad this is the proper deal because you know, world-renowned dermatologist Dr. Howard Murad – head honcho – knows his stuff.

Out of the five, I have been using the Hydrating Sensation set, which offers luxurious, deep hydration. One of the things Dr Murad strongly preaches is the importance of drinking water and eating a balanced diet including fresh fruit and vegetables, and believe me I abide by these things.

Over the past 3 or 4 months I have altered my diet cutting out sugary/fizzy drinks and replacing with water and fruit juices. However when skin is dehydrated, it’s because it’s depleted of moisture and usually the cause of this are things we cannot avoid like harsh weather and travelling on the tube where you are void of fresh air and daylight.

This collection contains Hydrating Toner 15ml, Hydro-Dynamic™ Ultimate Moisture 50ml and Hydro-Dynamic™ Ultimate Moisture for eyes 3.5ml – basically this kit will serve its purpose in these 3 simple items.

The moisturiser is my favourite. It works a treat at keeping my skin hydrated, soft and supple and well, it feels so nice to use – immensely luxurious and you can feel it working. The pot is a big size that will last a while even when used twice a day. The eye cream is light to use and instantly gives you a boost and the toner is wonderfully refreshing.

The kits are exceptional value for money starting at £36 and going up to £73.50 but being worth pretty much double those amounts so you’re getting brilliant skincare products for less than you’d normally pay. Hydrating Sensation is worth £123.30 and costs £73.50 in this collective bundle – a saving of nearly £50.

I love how Murad has come up with these clever gift sets – and it’s a good enough excuse to take your skincare seriously. Bag one of these beauties fast!
