Ciate Guest List
2012

Just when I think Ciate have redeemed themselves in terms of formula and staying power, something happens to upset me. I have mixed feelings about this nail varnish. I don’t really think the same could be said for how it felt
about me though – it hated me, pure and simple.
Guest List is an odd one. I bought it because in the bottle it looked like a lovely dark, rich purple creme. Similar to various OPIs (the name of which escape me – either Russian or French). So I grabbed this earlier in the year when all the pastels and brights were starting to wear me out, thinking it would be a perfectly soothing plum coloured autumnal shade.
On the nail, it came out brown. Eh? But as you can clearly see around the edges, it has a reddish-purple hue. I just don’t get it. It’s not a duochrome. So why try and behave like one?
Not only that, but this chipped on me after only a couple of hours of wear, which did not include any form of manual labour (does it ever?). Humph. Such promise in the bottle, and such a disappointment on. There are a million other dark vampy cremes out there and for the £9.00 a bottle that Ciate charge, I’d be tempted to choose an OPI instead.
So, I’m afraid this isn’t really one guest list that I want to be on. Or a Guest List that wants to be on me.

Ciate chips like a mofo on me. Hours, just like you. It’s a sad state of affairs, really.
Hi Helen,
I read your review about Ciaté nail polish – and was shocked. First of all you say it chips quickly, and the color (like Guest List) wasn’t what you expected.
Normally, the color you see in the bottle isn’t exactly the color you are going to get on your nails. For the chipping, I guess your nails are just weak. I’ve got weak nails myself, zo I know what it is like. I also saw you have pretty long nails, which also helps the polish to chip quickly.
Another thing I would like to tell you, is that you applied the polish Guest List a kind of… wrong. The reddish hue you see at the end of your nails (closest to your cuticles) is a color you’re not supposed to see. The second layer of polish should cover your first layer, so I think you applied your polish too quick. The other problem is, I think, that you do not make a perfect bow (rounding) at the end of your cuticle. It’s all lumpy. I applied Guest List myself, and it looked perfect. I also sell Ciaté polish myself, and never heard any complains about it. Above all I paint people’s nails to let them try and see what Ciate polish looks like.
Just a few tips for you to make your nails look more beautiful.
Kind regards,
F. Meinema
