Love chocolate? Get high on the smell alone? Then you’re going to love this.

Earlier in the year, I reviewed Clayspray’s Brightening White Clay with Ginseng mask. Clayspray are the folks who have packed a luxurious clay mask in an aerosol spray can, made of the highest proportion of the purest clay, offering skincare benefits with instant results.

They also have a variety of other clay face masks to suit all skin types as well as specific types and recently, I had the pleasure of trying another from their range. Well I couldn’t have asked for anything better than the Red Clay & Cacao Treatment* mask.

It smells of chocolate but in a delicious way, not like the one Lush does. Sorry, Lush but your chocolate mask makes me feel nauseous.  Any way! With a formula that combines the purifying clay with restorative cacao, it is packed with extra minerals, vitamins and antioxidants to nourish your skin.

It works the same way as other Clayspray masks: spray some of the H20 water spray to dampen the skin before applying the mask and then spray again to emulsify it and wipe off. I smeared on a thin layer (which looks like nutella) but unlike the other one, this took over half an hour to dry completely (my face resembled the same colour as dried plaster). Perhaps the drying time is determined by which ingredients are used…just a thought.

Now this one is messy. I mean the mess shows up when you wash it off because of the colour of the mask. If you’re using a flannel, that too will change colour. My white sink was covered in splatters so be prepared to wipe down thoroughly because the pesky stuff gets everywhere.

That said this is a glorious mask. It leaves your skin smooth, hydrated and supple…probably the closest thing to going to a salon but without the time and effort. You need to make room for this in your bathroom cabinet.

Free from preservatives, paraben, PEG, phenoxyethanol, artificial colours and perfumes and suitable for vegans and vegetarians, Clayspray’s Red Clay with Cacao Masque costs £30 with the H20 water spray (cleverly labelled Clayspray Chocolay Duo) from such sites as feelunique.com or £25 on its own and is suitable for all skin types.

  1. Not at all, Amy! I spray it on my fingers and then apply it on my face. I tried spraying it once and it was like a splodge. It’s a small spray (like shaving gel) so it doesn’t shower everywhere.
