I frigging love Davina McCall. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting her at a charity event she hosted a few years ago that I was photographing and yes, off camera she is always grinning…and why not? A mother of three with killer abs and a hot husband, I too would be deliriously happy.
These days Davina is focussed on healthy eating in tune with her fitness DVDs and recipe books, and having seen her talk at food shows (I sound like a stalker), it comes as no surprise that she has paired up with Lakeland on designing an exclusive range of kitchen prep products, which are not only tools you will rely on a regular basis but very competitively priced. Each one is ergonomically designed with brightly coloured handles, bearing Davina’s name and reflective of her buzzing personality.
I was kindly sent a selection of her kitchen tools to try, which are:
a Crinkle Cutter
a Grater
Y Shaped Peeler
a Paring Knife
a pair of Kitchen Scissors
There is also a garlic press and blender in the range, the latter being the most expensive item at £29.99.
The Crinkle Cutter (£6.99) caught my attention first as I’ve never seen anything like it but apparently it’s quite old school. It’s a large stainless steel wavy cutter blade with a D-shaped handle that’s comfortable to grip and with it, you an make your own crinkle cut chips or slice some crudités. You know, jazz up the finger food a bit. I used it to make some sweet potato crinkle cut chips and also sliced some courgettes. The sharp blade cuts through the toughness of a sweet potato much more easily than a conventional knife.
The Grater (£11.99) is fantastic! It comes with a detachable base so everything you grate is contained within. Not only does this make for neatness but also it’s hygienic. The blades are made of stainless steel with fine, medium and coarse surfaces and a highly comfortable soft-touch handle. Grating is a piece of cake and really quick – I managed to grate carrots in about 15 seconds, funnily enough for a carrot cake I was baking.
Meanwhile the vegetable peeler makes peeling veggies a breeze for only £4.99.
At £3.99, the paring knife cuts sharply through vegetables, fruit and meat with its stainless steel blade that has a non-stick coating and comes with a blade cover for safe storage.
The kitchen scissors are multi-functional with scalloped stainless steel blades with herb stripper. Extremely comfortable to use and suitable for right and left-hander users, I’ve been using these cut through baking paper amongst other things.
Everything in this collection is dishwasher safe and made from stainless steel. At such affordable prices, these helpful kitchen tools make meal prepping quick and easy. Normally I’m sceptical when celebrities just put their name to a product without any further thought but Davina is on a different level and has taken this seriously. If your current set of tools are blunt but you don’t want to fork out a fortune for replacing them, give Davina for Lakeland a try – you won’t be disappointed.
