Scented candles are somewhat of a cliche with beauty and lifestyle blogs…well, a cliched prop that I had a bit of a moan about in this post. I should say certain scented candles are a cliche, you know, the standard three obvious names that pop up time and time again. *rolls eyes*
Don’t follow the crowd, follow your senses but if you need a little guidance then I can assure you won’t be disappointed with Durance, beautifully French and incredibly understated.
I was introduced to Durance’s Spiced Biscuit candle last Christmas, which was a sell-out. Now a change of season means the arrival of new scents. I have to admit, I’m more for burning candles in the colder months so switching to a lighter and more summery fragranced candle is unusual for me.
For spring 2015 Durance has some delicate new scents: Feather (perfumed with violets and roses and blended with notes of vanilla and musk) and Pomegranate (a juice-laden pomegranate with a tangy, fruity taste and a heart of ref berry fruits on a bed of musk and sandalwood). I could happily settle for both of those – they sound divine!
However the one I’ve been burning is Cotton Flower* or en francais, Fleur de Coton. It’s a light fragrance with musky notes, creating a soft atmosphere and is perfect for the bedroom or living room. Wrapped in my fluffy white bathrobe, Cotton Flower just adds to the ambiance and it’s seasonal all year round as well.
With burn time approximately 40 hours this 180g candle housed in a traditional glass jar, surrounded by a cardboard is only £14. Imagine how many you can have for the price of one of those ridiculously expensive candles? And because it’s made of soy wax, it’s non-toxic and cleaner than burning paraffin so there is no danger of soot which can blacken walls, ceilings, and furniture.
The design and packaging is simple yet elegant with the hand-knotted 100% natural raffia adding a nice touch. It’s lovely that all Durance candles are made and hand painted in their workshops, which makes these unique and more special than the rest.
