Illamasqua Hydra Veil
Illamasqua’s much talked about Hydra Veil came out months ago but I’ve purposely taken my time with it. If I’m honest it had me flummoxed for a bit. It’s a gel formula that hydrates the skin but it fervently claims it’s not a primer yet you apply it before foundation. It is literally like wearing an invisible veil under your make-up, protecting your skin and keeping it hydrated – a Godsend, if like me, you get dry patches.
It looks like ectoplasm and if you stir the jelly like substance or make an indentation, it will resettle as if nothing had happened. It’s Illamasqua through and through where nothing looks like what it seems. It is also Skin Base’s best friend, which is my favourite foundation but it works with any base you choose to wear. I reported a while back how much it had improved the appearance of wearing the EX1 Cosmetics Invisiwear Liquid Foundation.
Here’s a story for you. I unwittingly did my make-up one morning before work last week. That evening I met make-up artist Daniel Sandler who remarked my (new) foundation looked amazing…but it was my regular foundation, the one I always wear! Then it dawned on me that it was the magic of Hydra Veil that had given me an absolute flawless finish. Bear in mind I had applied this at 8 in the morning and come 6 o’clock in the evening I hadn’t re-touched it plus I had to endure a sweaty tube journey in the hot weather. *shudder* I may have felt like a right old sweaty Betty but under the close scrutiny of Daniel, my make-up passed with flying colours.
I prefer to apply it with my fingers rather than a brush because it evaporates quickly. Usually a pea sized amount is more than enough and I use it over my usual moisturiser and serum. It dries almost instantly ready for base application. The pot also comes with a little scoop so any fears of dipping fingers in the pot can be dispelled immediately.
I am not surprised Illamasqua is so proud of Hydra Veil. Try it, believe me you will wonder how you managed without it.
Illamasqua’s Hydra Veil costs £27 for 30ml and is available at Illamasqua’s flagship store, at their counters and online.
