Maybelline Violet Aluminium
2011

Ahhh Maybelline. The great mystery. Why do Americans (and certain other countries) get these absolutely fantastic Maybelline polishes, but we Brits
only get about seven shades, most of which are pink or red basics? I do not understand. We like nail varnish too, you know.
This particular specimen was a gift to me as part of a swap that I did with Scrangie. At the time there wasn’t anything on the market that I particularly wanted or needed, so I just gave her the brief to send me anything that she thought I would like. And this is exactly how this rather nice polish made its way into my collection.
On first sight it is relatively unassuming, a fairly standard magenta toned plum. However, it applied in one coat – yes, that’s one coat, folks, and just look how pretty it is shimmering away there. It’s not quite a foil, not quite a frost. It covers evenly and perfectly and I am quite astonished to be honest, as Maybelline and I have never really had an easy relationship (don’t even get me started on “Great” Lash). Isn’t it pretty? I think everyone needs shades like this in their collection. Totally work appropriate and yet still stunningly pretty and rather interesting.
A million times better than the not-very-exciting polishes that confront me every time I step into Boots, any way. Thank you, Scrangie!

imi place violetul !
We were in the same situation in NZ until recently – Maybelline came in sheer pink, red and sheer pink. We’ve just started to get a few more shades in, but still nothing near the range I’ve seen on American blogs.
You Brits have some wonderful brands also! There needs to be one big place online that sells every darn brand of polish in the world. That would make me extremely happy. That’s a gorgeous shade. I never look at Maybelline. To me it’s always been a cheap brand with crap colors. The brand is much better than it was when I was a teenager. Then it was pinks, reds & frosty shades. The problem is that I’ve been buying so many drugstore brands this past year & it costs more than China Glaze! Phooey.
I’m so glad you like it! We don’t really get good Maybellines anymore, either. I mean, they do cool colors every now and then, but their brushes and formula are SO BAD, I regret it every time I buy one. That one’s good because it’s an old, slightly rare shade from their discontinued Aluminum collection
