Nars Tokaido Express
I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with Nars polishes. I love them, and they hate me.
Every one that I have applied has gone on beautifully and looked absolutely stunning, for all of about eight hours. They don’t seem to be able to withstand the hefty amount of typing that I do every day. I don’t get chips or anything, but the tipwear is pretty dire. I don’t understand. I paint it on nice and thin, around the tip and under the free edge, and have experimented with practically every topcoat I own, but nothing works. It’s driving me mad.
And the reason it’s really driving me mad today is because this is gorgeous. I’d wanted it for ages but not caved as I thought it was probably going to be too similar to others I have. And ok, it’s not unique. I can’t think of an exact dupe for it, but it’s from the same colour family as many others I own.
However, where Tokaido Express really comes into its own is when you catch a glimpse of the gorgeous shimmer. The main base is a reddish brown, not that interesting, but the golden and pink toned shimmer livens it up and makes this one an utter stunner. I love it.
Application was great. Two coats and this was opaque and spangly. No complaints at all. None of the bald spots or streaking that people complained about with Zulu or Purple Rain. You see Tokaido Express here with Lumos topcoat, which dried it in a couple of minutes. Perfect.
Nars polishes may not be as expensive as Chanel or Dior (yet…) but this one screams “expensive” to me. Fresh on, it looks beautiful. Now, if only I could do something about that pesky tipwear…
