OPI Affair In Times Square
2010
For years, I felt as though my boyfriend and I were the only people in the world (or certainly in our circle of acquaintances) who had never been to New York. It was the one place in the world I was desperate to visit but somehow I’d just never got there.
That all changed a few years ago, when firstly I won a trip to New York with work. I had to go with my colleagues though, which was ok, but left the poor boyfriend subsequently thinking that he was the only person on the planet who hadn’t been to New York as he wasn’t allowed to come with me (work’s rules, not mine). However, this was rectified by the fact that he booked me an amazing surprise trip there (with two of our best friends) for my 30th a
couple of years ago. Ahhhh.
Onto the polish. Affair In Times Square is a real oldie. Possibly the oldest nail varnish in my collection actually. This is from the New York City collection of 2000, meaning that actually, OPI were making awesome dingy grurple colours TEN years ago. And they’re still trendy today.
This is old formula OPI. Pre Big-3. So it is runny, stinky and overall, one not best ingested. This was a lot thinner than the OPIs we know and love these days and it did take four coats to reach opacity. It did wear like iron though, with no tipwear or chips for four days. I know you’ll be wondering how similar it is to OPI’s more recent hit, Parlez-Vous OPI. Well, I have a comparison post coming up, so stay tuned for that over the next few days.
I love it, and because it’s so rare and hard to find, I feel sad that I can’t wear it as much as I’d like. Only one complaint though. Isn’t this an odd shade to conjur up images of Times Square? Whenever I think of Times Square, I think of yellow taxis, bright lights and flashing neon.
And, just to prove I was there, here are a couple of snaps taken in Times Square, from my 30th birthday trip to New York. Even though I’m no longer the only person in the world who hasn’t been there, I am desperate to go back!

OPI Parlez-Vous OPI vs An Affair In Times Square | Just Nice Things
[...] Parlez-Vous OPI? from the France collection of 2008. I promised this post to you when I reviewed Affair In ...

I don’t think I’ve seen this shade before, how did it get past me?! It’s really nice, I’d love to own it. To me it looks different enough to Parlez Vous OPI to want to own both.
That’s a lovely colour! It does look similar to Parlez vous OPI which I have (and like a lot) so I’ll be interested to see the comparison.
Jane x
Ooh that’s a lovely colour, I’ve heard of it before and wish I could get hold of it! Parlez Vous is my favourite shade of all time so I look forward to the comparison x
I loved that you mention the fact OPI has been making those ashy/muddy colors for so long, loooong before Particulière hahaha
I’ve never been to New York!
It’s shocking. I had planned to go in 2000 (sheesh, 10 years ago!)…any way, I haven’t anyone to go with. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
Love this colour – I didn’t realise they were so ahead of the trend with the murky purple shades!
*insert drool here*
i love this polish! i hope one day to get my hands on it!!! Looks great on your long nails too!
I enjoy New York, but I often feel lost there… literally! not figuratively! =)
On my screen this looks a lot like OPI’s “You Don’t Know Jacques”, maybe slightly purpler. My “Parlez-Vous OPI” is comparatively really purple. It may just be my screen–or eyes–but if you have “You Don’t Know Jacques” I’d love to know how you think they compare.
Andrea – I had never seen it until I stumbled on an internet site selling it – I paid rather a lot of money for it but I don’t care as it’s beautiful.
Jane – Comparison post is scheduled for later in the week
Chocaddict – Yes, and it’s miles nicer than Particuliere as well!
Sheenie – One day we shall go to New York, I promise!
BeautyJunkieLondon – Nor did I til I did some research into it. Ten years ahead of the game!
Jen – Glad you like
Sarah – I am concerned about the resolution of your screen as to me this looks like a light greyed lilac…! YDKJ is miles darker, murkier and browner by comparison
I’m ashamed to say that I’ve never been there. I don’t know when or if I will ever get there. I don’t even have this polish. Boo hoo me! I love the shade and will be interested in your comparison post.
