OPI Affair In Times Square
For years, I felt as though my boyfriend and I were the only people in the world (or certainly in our circle of acquaintances) who had never been to New York. It was the one place in the world I was desperate to visit but somehow I’d just never got there.
That all changed a few years ago, when firstly I won a trip to New York with work. I had to go with my colleagues though, which was ok, but left the poor boyfriend subsequently thinking that he was the only person on the planet who hadn’t been to New York as he wasn’t allowed to come with me (work’s rules, not mine). However, this was rectified by the fact that he booked me an amazing surprise trip there (with two of our best friends) for my 30th a couple of years ago. Ahhhh.
Onto the polish. Affair In Times Square is a real oldie. Possibly the oldest nail varnish in my collection actually. This is from the New York City collection of 2000, meaning that actually, OPI were making awesome dingy grurple colours TEN years ago. And they’re still trendy today.
This is old formula OPI. Pre Big-3. So it is runny, stinky and overall, one not best ingested. This was a lot thinner than the OPIs we know and love these days and it did take four coats to reach opacity. It did wear like iron though, with no tipwear or chips for four days. I know you’ll be wondering how similar it is to OPI’s more recent hit, Parlez-Vous OPI. Well, I have a comparison post coming up, so stay tuned for that over the next few days.
I love it, and because it’s so rare and hard to find, I feel sad that I can’t wear it as much as I’d like. Only one complaint though. Isn’t this an odd shade to conjur up images of Times Square? Whenever I think of Times Square, I think of yellow taxis, bright lights and flashing neon.
And, just to prove I was there, here are a couple of snaps taken in Times Square, from my 30th birthday trip to New York. Even though I’m no longer the only person in the world who hasn’t been there, I am desperate to go back!
