OPI Touring America
It was the hottest day of the year so far yesterday. I think it got to about 21°c in London yesterday which was utterly glorious and seemed to make the city come alive. So, what better day to start thinking about Autumn/Winter, eh? This mini-heatwave coincided with OPI’s launch of Touring America, a large collection released for A/W and also coinciding with OPI’s 30th anniversary.
So, even though it only feels like about five minutes since the launch of Pirates of the Caribbean collection, I was thrilled to be back in the company of the nice people from Lena White for this exciting event. So lets get to it, shall we?
Suzi Takes The Wheel. “Buckle up for this grey”. A dark grey creme, this is a nice shade for Autumn. I’m glad grey isn’t going anywhere just yet as it is one of my favourites. It does make me want to sing “Jesus, Take The Wheel ” though, a la Carrie Underwood.
Honk If You Love OPI. “Gorgeous Grape”. A vampy purple creme. It’s not so dark as to look black, which makes a change, and I can see this one being very popular among people who are in the market for a new purple for winter.
Color To Diner For. “Rosy red with a side of awesome”. To me, this looked more rust than red. A pretty, but staple OPI shade.
A-Taupe The Space Needle. “This taupe reaches new heights”. One look and this was love. Somewhere halfway between You Don’t Know Jacques and Over The Top, this is a gorgeous mushroom creme.
Get In The Expresso Lane. “Amped up coffee”. Yes, please! I love a brown shade and this creme looks utterly gorgeous. I can’t wait to try this out.
My Address is Hollywood. “Pretty rose-pink”. This is pretty. A hot creamy pink. To me this belongs to more of a summer collection than a winter but I guess no OPI collection would be complete without the requisite pink.
Road-House Blues. “A deep navy to lift your spirits”. This is very nice indeed. I can’t recall a navy creme from OPI previously so this is a nice change of pace. And it is a blue-blue not a blackened blue so the colour is bright and vibrant.
I Brake For Manicures. “A plum worth stopping for.” This is probably one of the least original of the whole collection, a deep aubergine plum, along the lines of Lincoln Park After Dark.
I Eat Mainely Lobster “This coral is a real catch”. For me, this is the surprise star of the collection. A fantastic shimmery coral jelly that leans more towards pink than it does orange. This is jam-packed with gold and pink microshimmer, and the first thing I thought was how fab this would be as a pedicure polish. OK, so I won’t be getting my toes out that often in winter, but this polish is a must-have as far as I am concerned.
Uh-Oh, Roll Down The Window. “Pull over for this olive green”. This is going to be the fan favourite of the collection. OPI have got this just right. A fluid grungy green creme, this looks great on cool skintones and is a great change of pace from the usual taupes and plums we see this time of year.
Are We There Yet? “Must-have melon”. One of my favourite sayings, haha. This is a lighter version of I Eat Mainely Lobster and has the same kind of shimmer. Very pretty and delicate.
French Quarter For Your Thoughts. “New Orleans grey”. This is a nicely balanced grey creme. Nothing new here but extremely lovely and definitely one to go for if your collection is lacking a creamy grey. By the way, I asked about the boobs in the display here and apparently there is a tradition to flash your assets during a certain carnival or occasion in New Orleans and receive a string of beads in return. You learn something new every day, hey? Perhaps a reader familiar with this tradition can confirm?
Here is the swatch of the colours. They show a little darker here than in real life.
I also got a glimpse of the new Shatter collection. The turquoise is really pretty – very shimmery and a nice alternative to all of the matte and chalky Shatter topcoats we have seen of late.
Here are my swatches of the three I was given to take away. More as and when I get them.
Honk If You Love OPI. I expected this to be boring and a repeat of a million other shades. It is very lovely though. A red toned purple creme. Perfect for Autumn, would look great paired with a black outfit. This needed three coats but the formula is great and application was a breeze.
French Quarter For Your Thoughts. Have OPI done a light grey creme before? Don’t think so. This is pretty close to Rescue Beauty Lounge’s Concrete Jungle. Two coats, I had some dragging here as this was pretty quick-drying. I like the colour – it is calming and smart without being depressing and rainy.
Are We There Yet? A shade that does my skintone no favours whatsoever. I think this would look amazing on dark toned skin though. I was expecting this to be sheer, so was thrilled when it covered in three thick coats. A melon shade, this looks pretty orange to me. Can you see the shimmer though? Yellow microshimmer. So pretty.
So, what do I think? Having had overnight to think about it, I really like this collection. I am a nail varnish fanatic (no, really) and there are some new and exciting things here for me. I don’t exactly see how the lighter shades and shimmers fit in with an Autumn/Winter theme, but when they are as pretty as this, I don’t really care. I want them all. The formula, from what I have tried so far is excellent. None of the haphazardness of the Texas collection.
The OPI Touring America collection is scheduled to hit our shelves at the end of August. What do you think? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
