Something for the weekend

Why does the weekend always fly by? Mind you, it has been quite a nice one for me. It began with meeting my friend, Safira from Safira Says for brunch at The Great Chase restaurant in Islington. This restaurant has been on my radar for months since stumbling across their Instagram account and drooling at their fine dining works of art.

It’s a cosy place with a wonderful ambience, and a rich and diverse menu that puts a contemporary twist on traditional favourites. More importantly, the restaurant is extremely passionate about responsibily sourcing premium quality ingredients that are organic and free-range, which is evident from the moment you take the first bite or spoonful.

I instinctively knew what I wanted to order – the duck leg with maple syrup, a duck egg and fluffy banana pancakes plus a flat white. Safira went for the salmon with poached eggs and a side of avocado, and a pot of Earl Grey. The duck was divine – succulent, flavoursome and falling off the bone. As for the pancakes? I can still taste them. Combined with the runny yolk and the maple syrup, the combination of flavours left me wanting more.

With pudding teasing us, it would have been a shame to turn it down so Safira ordered chocolate mousse, pecan praline and cranberry while I opted for the cox apple crumble with oats, pumpkin, a smattering of pumpkin seeds and a scoop of cornflake ice cream. Yeah, cornfake. Truly delicious and just what is needed during this cold weather. The bill worked out to about £27 per person with service charge included – and the service is justified because the staff are so helpful and knowledgeable about the food they create and serve.

I heartedly recommend giving The Great Chase a try and if you decide to, make a reservation because this popular haunt books up quickly especially at the weekends.

The next stop for me was to head over to Lewisham Shopping Centre for a spot of Christmas shopping and for the opening of the newest Rush salon*. My hair is looking lacklustre and flat so I was looking forward to being pampered with a blow-dry. Thanks to Nicolai’s efforts, I left with voluminous bouncy curls and feeling very glam.

So this is what I got up to at the weekend. It’s fair to say I’ve had worst ones. What did you get up to?

*I had a complimentary treatment at Rush salon.
