Last weekend, I received a beautiful surprise delivery from Stila – limited edition Beach palettes.  These couldn’t have turned up at a better time as the day before I’d just booked a holiday to Miami in January…there’s even a palette named after South Beach – that’s where I’ll be staying!

Each slick palette comes with a mirror, four eyeshadows and two cheek colours with a step-by-step guide.

I gave Living the Life in Laguna palette a swirl, which contains pretty, soft pinks and taupes for the eyes (Sand Dollar, Sunset, Cave, Bonfire) with a pink blush (Seashell) and a delicate apricot shade as a highlighter (Pacific Coast Highway).

The shades are very soft on my skin tone, but it’s a palette I’d wear for work.  I found the blusher too light, however and preferred the highlighter as a substitute blusher instead.

Wonderful in Wahiki is wilder with the eye-catching and irresistable turquoise Surf.  I’ve not tried the eyeshadows yet but am looking forward to seeing how Surf sits with the other corresponding shades.  It is deeply pigmented though with a matte finish while the others are pearlised.

Again, I found the bronzing powder (Hanauma Bay) worked better as a blusher.  It would seem the blushers are designed for paler skins so they’re wasted on tanned, olive or darker skin tones sadly.

Striking in South Beach is the one to reach for in the evenings (I’m thinking for the bars and clubs actually) and will certainly look nice on all skin tones.  I reckon Helen would come up with something smokingly striking if she tried this palette.  Nightlife looks epic – black with fine, speckled glitter. I’m not too thrilled about the pale, pink blusher – looks like another one I’ll have to give a miss but when you’re getting 4 decent eyeshadows for £10, it’s nothing to quibble about.

So there we have it from Stila!  I have vowed to pack light with make-up (so she says…!), so I am promising to take foundation, concealer, primer, one blusher, one mascara, one eyeliner and a few eyeshadows in palette form.  I reckon this collection is convenient for travelling (not to mention the handbag).  It also means I can fill my boots at Sephora.

Oh, and one last thing…
