In October I brought you news of Aveda’s latest cosmetics collection, Passion Flower.

Well here is an example of one of the Petal Essence Single Eye Colors in blue (Cerulean Bloomthat I thought I’d share. It is only the one colour swept across the lids with the light Callalily as a highlighter on the brows.

Make-up artist Adam de Cruz used this shade one of the models at the launch although I do believe he used a blue eyeliner to make the colour pop more:

I think a lot of people fear wearing blue as eye make-up (perhaps it’s because it brings back nightmares of the 80s) but it’s a really nice alternative shade for a smokey eye look. This one is not as bright or bold as other blues that I have, it’s quite greyish actually but oh-so soft and alluring. You have to build it up a fair bit to get a deep colour but it blends well and there is little fall-out too.

The Passion Flower Collection is available in Aveda salons, spas, stores and on www.aveda.co.uk and these eyeshadows cost £11.50 each.

Hair thinning is a common problem – I myself have written about how I’ve been affected by this through illness and medication. Other possible reasons are linked to stress, pregnancy and hormones but the damage we inflict with using styling tools doesn’t help either.

Aveda is now offering a new bespoke treatment in its salons which will help revitalise your hair. The Invati Scalp Detox Treatment stimulates hair growth and eliminates product build-up which can affect the health of the scalp.  This treatment is like a detox for your hair, refreshing your scalp through massage and the use of such ingredients as Wintergreen-derived salicylic acid.

With that in mind, I paid a visit to Aveda’s Institute in Covent Garden to try this detoxifying treatment and to see how it would tackle my concerns of hair loss.

My Aveda stylist began with massaging a herbal-infused oil into my scalp as well as relieving the tension in my neck and shoulders. A head massage is bliss and one which smells amazing is a bonus. This was then washed out thoroughly before another treatment to add protection to the hair was added. I forget what it was exactly so I am sorry about that – I drifted away during it all.

The detoxifying treatment will differ depending on your hair length and type and includes a wash and professional blow-dry.

I left the salon and spa feeling refreshed after an exhausting day at work and my colleagues commented on how good my hair looked the next morning.

With most things, if done regularly you are likely to see results and I was recommended this treatment should ideally be done once a month. However not everyone can afford the time and expense in which case you can maintain the health of your hair with Invati’s three step daily hair regime:

Exfoliating Shampoo — A gentle daily shampoo that cleanses, exfoliates and renews the scalp with wintergreen-derived salicylic acid. Proven to remove build-up of sebum and product residue that can clog pores and impact healthy looking hair.
RRP £17.80 | 200ml

Thickening Conditioner —Proven to thicken the look of hair, this conditioner penetrates the hair shaft to strengthen with arginine, an amino acid derived from sugar beets and soy protein. Organic kukui nut oil helps add natural shine to the hair.
RRP £21.50 | 200ml

Scalp Revitalizer — When massaged into the scalp, this Revitalizer utilises turmeric and ginseng to help revitalise the scalp around the follicles when massaged in.
RRP £41.00 | 150ml

If you’re interested, the Invati Scalp Detox Treatment costs £60 for 60 minutes. To find out more, visit www.aveda.co.uk or www.avedainstitute.co.uk.

Excuse me while I crawl under this rock but I thought Aveda was about hair only. Actually no, they do make-up too!

One evening last week I was invited to the Aveda Institute in Covent Garden for a closer look at their new Passion Flower make-up collection, which constitutes of everything you need in a make-up bag sized quantity for day to evening looks. Minimalistic baggage, ladies!

Make-up artist Adam De Cruz, who’s worked his magic on Alicia Keys on tour and Leona Lewis, demonstrated a few key autumn looks and it’s the electric blue smokey look which was the clear winner (for me).

The collection includes:

3 Nourish-Mint Smoothing Lip Colors in Wild Fuchsia, Snap Dragon and Rare Orchid (£12.50)
3 Nourish-Mint Rehydrating Lip Glazes in Star Dahlia, Gilded Lotus and Pearl Rose (£15.50)
2 Nourish-Mint Lip Liners in Foxglove and Tarragona (£14)
6 Petal Essence Single Eye Colors in Cerulean Bloom, Calla Lilly, Brown Velvet Rose, Bittersweet, Night Iris and Green Tuberose (£11.50)

Here are a couple of Adam’s completed looks using the Passion Flower collection.  The key is simplicity and Adam has done exactly that with bold looks with few products:

The evening was rounded off with a head and neck massage AND a wash and blow-dry, and my frizzy mane was transformed into a wondrous bouffant vision with my hair smelling like candy from their Light Elements Shaping Wax (£21).

I haven’t had a cut in 6 weeks and did a quick colour booster home dye job for my friend’s wedding yet it’s amazing what a difference a good wash and blow-dry makes – it looks like I’ve had a complete restyle and cut. Joom was my lady. She has changed the appearance of my cut and style all by blow-drying my hair and giving my locks body and shine.

I’ve frequented Aveda for many hair saving products. In fact  they came to my rescue about 4 years ago when so-called mild shampoos from the high street were making my roots horrendously greasy and the ends dry. I was marched up to Aveda’s concession counter in House of Fraser, Bluewater (see how I remember these significant things vividly) and I’ve never looked back since.

For my first visit to the Aveda Institute, I was bowled over. It’s a shame I had to go home on the smelly tube and train after. Oh well. I’m off to have a play with the Passion Flower collection I was given and I promise I will report back with the results.

The Passion Flower Collection is available in Aveda salons, spas, stores and on www.aveda.co.uk from October 2012.
