If there’s something that bloggers and beauty addicts like to talk about, it is the perfect taupe eyeshadow (aka the Holy Grail). For some it is MAC, for others it is Trish McEvoy, and for others it is Urban Decay. Every brand has a taupe and every blogger has a favourite.
Here’s mine. Victoria’s Secret Sultry quad. I spied this when I was inVictoria’s Secret in Florida on my honeymoon last year. I’ve always had a bit of a thing for their Beauty Rush lipglosses (cheap, cheerful and smell amazing) but never tried out any of their eye make-up. However, the Sultry quad called to me as it is a collection of four of my favourite neutral style shades but with a little twist.
The pale colour is a fantastic browbone highlighter with a little bit of shimmer to it. Then we have a mushroomy taupe matte colour that spreads beautifully over the lid. My favourite shade here is a brown that has a hint of golden khaki as well. It’s absolutely stunning, yet subtle. The quad finishes off with a dark brown matte shade that is perfectly smooth and pigmented and enables the perfect crease contrast.
My only criticism of this little quad is the fact that the lighter two of the shades are quite tightly packed and are hard to get the product onto the brush. You can clearly see where I have had to scratch away at the surface with the end of my brush to flake some of the shadow away. Also, you can’t really use a wide brush here as the colours all tend to meld into one – I’d prefer it if it were four mini pans in one quad. But – it’s a small criticism and overall this gets the big thumbs up for me. It is my perfect taupe shadow and one I always reach for when I want to be a bit toned down or I’m not fancying any of the brighter shades in my collection.
Victoria’s Secret is not in the UK as yet (although I hear it is coming to Oxford Street any day now) but you can order online here. (This quad costs $15). However, the standard shipping is $30 and can take up to a month, so you might be better off putting that towards a trip to America and having a little holiday at the same time.
