What’s new at Nars?
Good morning, everybody. Imagine my delight when I was given a sneak preview of the new make-up collections that Nars has in store for us for the upcoming months. I didn’t really know what do do with myself when we were given the opportunity to explore the new products and get to know what is going to be released later in the year.
Launching in May 2011, Nars are bringing us some rather remarkable eyeshadows for the Summer collection. The first to catch my eye was Dogon (£23.50), which is like a totally amped up Rajasthan. It is a taupey grey that has an almost duochrome effect – imagine Illamasqua’s Bacterium as an eyeshadow and you’ve got it. Paired with one of those glorious off-black teal that Nars do so well. This is limited edition, and I am already planning buying backups of it. Unfortunately none of my photos turned out well here but trust me, you need it.
The other duo is a silver and bronze pairing, called Exotic Dance (also £23.50). Subtle and very pretty. I wasn’t overly keen on the green pencil (Queen, £16.50)- again, supremely glittery and kind of bumpy. It applies smoothly but is kind of sparse. Lovely limey colour though – hot for tanned skin.
There are two new nail varnishes, Kismet and Ecume (£13.50 each). White and gold – very St Tropez, and both limited edition. Sadly I wasn’t able to get close enough to them to really check them out I am afraid, nail fanatics. I’ll keep you posted!
How about this little beauty? Cap Ferrat Trio Eyeshadow (£33, limited edition). Personally, it might be a tad frosty for me (although that won’t stop me from buying it). It is a gorgeous bird-of-paradise trio, and fact fans will like the fact that this is the first segregated trio from Nars – the other two, Okinawa and Calanque were blended in one pan.
Isn’t that fuschia matte lipstick a stunner (Carthage, £18.50)? I’m from the nude school of lips but I can’t wait to test this one out. The blusher (New Order, £20.50) is beautiful but is crazy with glitter. A very sweet candy pink, I’m not sure that this is one for the more mature lady.
Look at this lovely blusher/illuminator trio. I loved this. It is more of a pearlised shimmer than an actual blusher but I can think of a million and one ways to use this, and I think it is gorgeous – a total must-have for me. The photo washes this out slightly – in real life, the pink is a lot brighter and more coral. You can also see the Laguna shimmer stick here. A tad greasy for me, but I know other people went mad for it.
Nars are launching two new facial primers (£24 each), one of which we were given a sample of to test out. I’m going to come back to you on this. If it works, it is an exciting thing. An oil-free, fragrance free, paraben free matte primer that over time will work to reduce enlarged pores? And another that contains SPF30 to create an even skintone and protect against UVA and UVB pollutants? Marvellous. I expect these to fly off the shelves. I’ll let you know how I get on with it some time soon.
The Nars Summer collection will be available from all the usual places in May 2011. It is a big collection too. Four limited edition eyeshadows sets, a lip gloss, two lipsticks, two nail varnishes, one blusher, a shadow eye pencil and a velvet matte lip pencil. Wow.
Not had enough yet? How about this then….a sneaky peek of something from the Autumn/Winter range…. doesn’t this look marvellous…? I’ve also seen and tested out a new kohl pencil that is practially permanent. I know the good weather has only just arrived in the UK, but trust me, as far as Nars goes, Autumn can’t come soon enough.
