Wilko Dry Shampoo

Everyone’s favourite dry shampoo (a name so obvious that I don’t need to mention it) is not good for my hair.  It makes it feel like straw and uncomfortable – like it’s in desperate need of a wash and I do end up washing my hair on the very day I’ve used it – kind of defeats the purpose. Thank goodness for Wilkinson who sent me their dry shampoo to trial from their new Wilko salon styling range.

Having embraced the family high street store Wilkinson for the first time last year, I can see the value for money brand isn’t just about saving pennies.  I think most people would turn their noses up at low cost alternatives but Wilkinson has pushed hard to come up with products that do work.

As I mentioned the other dry shampoo brand doesn’t agree with me and on the basis of that, I approached Wilko’s dry shampoo with caution, half expecting it to turn out the same.  In case you’ve never used a dry shampoo (and I am relatively new to the procedure), you use between washes, giving your hair extra body whilst refreshing your (greasy) locks without water.

Spray lightly from about 30 cm into your hair (ideally your roots), massage with your finger tips, leave for a few moments, brush the product out and then style as normal.

Experts stress it’s not great to wash your hair every day and strip it of its natural oils but mine is extremely greasy at the roots and I do feel very conscious if my hair looks a mess.  I am trying to avoid washing my barnet frequently and the option of a dry shampoo offers a way of prolonging the need.

Wilkinson has two versions currently available: brunette and all shades.

Well I’ve set a personal record of going 3 whole days without washing thanks to Wilko’s dry shampoo.   THREE WHOLE DAYS!  The ends don’t feel dry, my roots don’t have that nasty greasy feeling, it doesn’t turn my hair white and once I’ve run the straighteners on the ends, my hair looks fine and lasts all day without any hassles.  And what cost do such results come at?  98p for a 150ml can.  Do not adjust your monitors – indeed I said 98 PENNIES.  Sorry but doesn’t the leading dry shampoo cost £2.99 a pop?

Unfortunately there is a con.  It’s a bitch for getting everywhere and settles on every known surface like dust but it’s a small issue to quibble about when the product actually works.  If like me you have fine hair, and particularly greasy, you will love Wilko Dry Shampoo.

Other products available from this range are a Quick-Dry Vitality Super Hold Setting Lotion (150ml) – £1, Thermal Defence Protection Spray (200ml) – £1 and Free free Shinier Smoother Hair Serum (50ml) – £1.75.  The Thermal Defence Protection Spray works wonderfully and again, such a bargain.

There are four ways to shop at Wilkinson; in store, from the catalogue, online at www.wilkinsonplus.com or by telephone on 08456 08 08 97.

However, I have searched for these products online and they are not coming up.  Wilkinson, can you please look into this?  The nearest branch to me is an 8 mile drive and I am sure many readers don’t live close to one.  Or open up more stores!

That’s brilliant. I am definitely going to pop up the road to Wilkinsons to invest in some dry shampoo after reading this! I use That Other One when I can’t be bothered to or don’t have time to wash my hair to make it less greasy, but I then have to tie it in a ponytail and not touch it all day, because it does feel icky and will still get greasy if I fiddle with it much. If this stuff’s potentially better and costs significantly less, then I’m all over it! Thanks for the tip 🙂

    NOOOOOOOOOOO!
I HAVE to wash my hair every night. It’s a compulsion. No matter what happens I have to wash it. Even when it was long. Since forever! I went to bed with it wet. But I have to wash it.

Lucky for you, Jen. I’m also being cautious as I’ve lost a fair amount of hair and am still losing some as a result of my recent treatment. Washing it frequently doesn’t help.

Emma, for 98p you are not taking a huge gamble. It sounds like you have the same problem as me when using the other dry shampoo. Try one and let me know how you get on!

I love the serum….(Shinier Smoother Hair Serum (50ml)) Beats my regular one that cost me £21, so much cheaper….. works well on my human hair extention as well as my own hair. it also works well with my regular styling product. its is definately like golddust considering the price. I have relaxed black hair and it still makes my hair feel light and bouncy…. i cannot say how much i love this product. I recomend it to all race. I just love it.

That’s really interesting to know and thanks for your useful verdict. The prices are brilliant – just goes to show you needn’t have to chase after high priced products to achieve excellent results.

Oh no, that’s rubbish, Diane! I don’t like the leading brands on the market and this one suited me so much as you will no doubt agree.
