e.l.f recently unveiled a new range of lippies, and very kindly sent me a few to try. Comprising of six shades, the ones I got my mitts on are dark, berry shades Posh, Fantasy and Voodoo.
e.l.f is recognised for its very attractive prices and as I was applying a lipstick and admiring the colour, smell and moisture, I thought, ‘Hmm, this is probably at least £3.50.’ No, each lipstick costs £1.50. This is madness but in a great way.
Feast your eyes on the swatches first…
Fantasy
Best described as a dusky rose shade, Fantasy is a blend of purple and burgandy essentially a nude lip colour. It has a very waxy consistency, making the lip colour appear sheer when it’s actually quite creamy and pigmented. I’d sooner favour a lipstick that’s highly moisturised to keep my lips hydrated and smooth than something that’ll dry up and flake away, which is sometimes the case with the more expensive brands. The scent is noticeable and gorgeous – a berry like fragrance.
Voodoo
Voodoo is a warm, deep mauve affair, and deeply gorgeous. Reminiscent of Bobbi Brown’s Raisin, for its price tag it won’t rival BB but who’s to argue when it costs so little? Voodoo is most certainly my favourite of the three, and is perfect a stand-out lippy for medium/dark skin tones in the winter season.
Posh
Hopefully with no association to that vacuous stick insect, Posh looks deceivingly like Voodoo, but is more of a dark raspberry, which goes well with its fruity scent. It’s another winning shade and along with the other two, is something I’d keep in my handbag for everyday wear.
These e.l.f lipsticks are like a lip balm and lipstick in one. Considering the next-to-nothing price tag of them, I am suitably impressed with the shades and pigmentation, as well as how long-lasting they are.
The cases are problematic, however – lightweight, shoddy and clumpy. You have to be careful when opening them because they feel so fragile and breakable. One of the lipsticks actually came away from its base and I had to push it back in. But it’s a small whine when you stack up what you’re getting for your money.
If you’re looking for stocking fillers, these won’t disappoint plus you can squeeze in a few for yourself without feeling guilty.

Loving the look of fantasy! Like you say, the packaging may be a bit shoddy but you cannot expect too much when they only cost £1.50.
I’ll definitely be picking a few up. Great swatches Sheenie.
Fantasy looks really nice! love to try them out but they don’t have a wide variety of colours yet. I’ve only used their mineral lipsticks which I love especially rosy raisin xoxo

These look gorgeous, I really like the look of fantasy. I would never have thought of purchasing lipsticks from ELF but I think i’ll give them a go xxx
Next to nail polish lipstick is my next vice. I have way too many to count! Put your tube that came out in the fridge to harden it back to it’s base. Works good. Have a nice weekend.
