OPI Curry Up, Don’t Be Late

I love what I’ve done here. I don’t know why I didn’t think of it sooner. OPI’s Curry Up, Don’t Be Late was a spontaneous internet purchase absolutely ages ago.

I don’t know why I added it, and certainly when the bottle arrived, I doubted my judgement even more. Maybe I was expecting a shimmery opaque gold, as you might think it would be judging by the bottle? What I didn’t expect was a runny, sheer yellow mess, with very few endearing features. No wonder it lived at the back of the untrieds box for so long.

Then, inspiration struck and I felt compelled to try it out as a layering polish.

Here you see Curry Up Don’t Be Late as a topcoat finish over Illamasqua Boosh. I love how it looks – like a bright yet burnished antique gold. So pretty!

In general, I wasn’t a massive fan of the India collection. I found the majority of the polishes to be sheer, boring, or badly manufactured.

I know I’ve featured a few of them on here but to be honest, my heart sinks at the prospect of having to deal with stubby brushes that need  a haircut and sheer polishes that need a gazillion coats (check here if you don’t believe me).

So. I suppose the moral of the story is to work with what you’ve got, rather than moan about it. I have now transformed a nail varnish from a nagging “you spent £10 on me and I’m crap” to a “look what an awesome trick I can do”. And for that, I can forgive this polish its utterly stupid and cringewothy name. Just.

  1. Despite having recently posted of my love of Moon over Mumbai–despite it being a pain in the arse to apply–one of my pet peeves is sheer nail polishes that don’t carry any indication that they’re sheer. I think it’s dodgy on products that are often quite expensive and can’t be tested before buying.

The antique burnished gold effect looks lovely by the way. Glad you could make it work for you!

  2. I love all of the India polishes that I have tried. I am currently wearing Monsooner or Later, purely because I was in a hurry to go out last night and I know it’s a polish that I can always rely on to apply quickly and perfectly in 2 coats, no clean up, no dragging, it’s perfect. I also love Yoga-to Get This Blue and Black Cherry Chutney.

  3. It looks good. I don’t like the burnished olive effect but it does look smart.
And I wish Sarah’s system applied. It’s such a shock sometimes to find something that bears no resemblance to the bottle because it’s so sheer.

  4. Definitely looks good but twice as much work! I barely have time to do a manicure these days, hence a very long pause in nail blogs. Sorry ladies, I am working on it!

  5. Oh my lord I hear what you say. The names on so many of these make me want to vom! I had CUDBL but I swapped it away. I may have thought about keeping it if I’d tried the layering, but probably not. I hardly ever layer unless its to make something holoooooooo

  6. Oh darn! I didn’t realize it was such a mess. I haven’t tried mine yet. I love this look. Antiqued gold is a fascinating shade on you. Have a fantastic weekend.
