OK, I need to get this out of the way first. Snowcone is a really odd name for this polish. Maybe because we don’t get snowcones in the UK, maybe because to me, it sounds wintery. Maybe I’m just bitter as I was never permitted to have a Mr Frosty machine when I was little. Who knows?
So, all that aside, Snowcone is one of the Orly polishes from the Sweet collection that Sheenie and I were recently sent to try out. I was excited about the prospect of trying more Orly, as I know that they are certainly a choice of the discerning nail blogger. Everyone raves about the grippy rubber bottle top nearly as much as they do about the shades themselves, and I see why. There’s something that is just ergonomically nice about it.
This is the first Orly creme polish I have tried and it kind of took me by surprise. It is thick, thick, thick. And dries uber-fast. In fact, so fast that I wasn’t prepared for it and I had some severe dragging with this one. I’ll know better for next time but you either need to work mega fast, or wait for your first coat to be 100% dry before attempting to add another. In fact, the only reason I needed to add a fast drying topcoat to this one was because I ended up doing a couple too many layers in order to cover over the dragging I experienced on the second coat.
So, all thickness aside, this is a nice colour. The camera hasn’t quite picked up on the true cornfloweryness of this one, unfortunately, but it has a little more depth to it than the traditional pastel blue creme. It’s certainly not a dupe for any of the other blue cremes I have, such as China Glaze Bahamian Escape or Models Own Beth\’s Blue.
It’s a nice shade. Perfect for this time of year, and yet another contender for the “something blue” pedicure I am planning on having for my wedding day. Next time though I would be more wary of the application and thickness of the consistency. Also – and this is in no way a criticism – this polish is extremely pigmented which means not only do you only need a couple of coats, it also means blue stained fingers upon removal. You have been warned!
Orly nail polishes are Big-3-Free and are available to buy from UK stockists www.cupidandgrace.com, priced at £8.75.

OMG I love this. I have seen it about so much and it looks fab. Don’t like the sound of the application though.
Looks like I’ll stick to CG Secret Per Wink Le for my soft blue.
I don’t even know what a snowcone IS! Thought it was just a fanciful name.
It is lovely though. Wish I could get Orly cheap. I don’t have any…
This is gorgeous and suits you so much.
A snowcone is shaved ice that has coloured/flavoured syrup poured over the top, and is served in a little wax-paper cone.
Love that you can *totally* see the reflection of the camera in the nails …
Love this shade on you. This is on my list to buy! I always got cherry snowcones and never had the blue. I’ll take this instead. Gorgeous!
I like! I stuck to buying a cheaper blue one (2True I think) because I’m not going to want to keep it on for days on end when term starts.
