20 Questions with Make Up Savvy

Hello everyone! Answering our 20 Questions today is Fiona from Make-Up Savvy. Fee has a very well written and nice looking blog, with honest and balanced views and reviews of a range of products from high end to high street. Check her out here.

1) Why did you start your blog?

I first started an Interior Design blog because I was renovating a house and felt like I really needed inspiration and to vent a bit! Once I had got into the blogging community abit more I stumbled across numberous beauty blogs and loved them. So I decided to create my own!

2) How long have you been blogging for?

I created Makeup Savvy back in Febuary. It does feel a lot longer than that though!

3) What do you enjoy most about blogging?

I don’t think I could put my finger on one thing really. I like the whole process of it, from thinking of something to write about to create the post, then reading the comments after. I also secretly enjoy wasting time on Twitter!

4) What frustrates you most about blogging?

Nothing overly frustrates me but sometimes I do get the feeling it is a bit competitive (if that is the right word for it). Increasing I have noticed afew bloggers posting press releases within 20 minutes of recieving the e-mail or posting about free products that a pr company has sent them within afew days of recieving them, which is hardly going to be an accurate review. Another thing that does frustrate me from time to time, is the amount of beauty blogs there are, it’s can be hard to feel like people do actually like your blog when there are so many to read. It also means you see alot of reviews on the same products!

5) How much time a week do you spend on your blog / reading other people’s blogs?

I normally spend afew hours a week writing posts for my blog and probably 1-2 hours a night reading other peoples! I have about 10 favourite blogs that update quite often so there is always something interesting to read..while my boyfriend watches ‘his’ programmes on the TV.

6) What advice do you have for aspiring beauty bloggers?

The only advice I would give is always try to be interesting with your posts, but write about what you know.

7) What other hobbies/interests do you have?

Other than blogging I love to cook and also eat! I am terrible at baking but I love to cook meals. I also enjoy reading a good book, when I have to time.

8 ) How many bottles of nail varnish do you own?

9) Do you set yourself a shopping budget, or do you purchase on an as-and-when basis?

I don’t really love shopping, so I tend to buy things here and there. Actually I tell a lie…I do love online shopping! But I never buy a lot at once really.

10) What is your favourite make-up brand, and why?

This really is a hard question to answer! Nothing really springs to mind but the brand that I always go back to and just know there products will be good is Yves Saint Laurent. I always repurchase Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils and Touche Eclat. I also love their Nail Polish brush pens and their eye palettes. There packaging is also something that attracts me.

11) Do you ever leave the house without wearing make-up?

There is no reason for me not to wear makeup, other than I would have more time in the mornings, but then I would look in the mirror all day thinking that I looked ill. But I do feel I have abit of a disadvantage to most people! As I have naturally blonde eyelashes and eyebrows so I have nothing that defines my face when I am makeup free. However I try to have them tinted in summer which means I do go out just wearing tinted moisturizer, a bit of eyeliner and some lipgloss.

12) What is your favourite beauty product and why?

It would probably be eyeliner. I just love the way it can change the appearance of the eye or make them appear a lot bigger than they are.

13) What is your favourite nail varnish of all time? (yep, only one!)

Pink Flamingo by Barry M. I don’t really know why because I am not really a pink person, but I just love the shade of pink it is. My niece always wants her nails painted with this shade too. Instead of asking what colour of nail polish I am wearing she askes me what’s it called. She is only 3!

14) Tell us about the best holiday you’ve ever been on

– I think it is still get too come when I marry my fiance. However there is one holiday that really stands out from all the rest and that I was really glad I went on. It was with my parents when I was 14 and we went to Morrocco. Not only was it an amazing place but it really opened my eyes to different cultures and to poverty. Until then I really hadn’t thought of how other people lived and I really do think it made me start to appreciate things more as a teenager and now as an adult. It was a learning curve in never to be too materialistic.

15) What would be your ideal day off?

Being by the seaside with my boyfriend eating ice-cream, as that was our very first date and also the day I fell in love 🙂

16) What is your favourite TV show?

The Apprentice and Gossip Girl. I also love watching documentaries about different cultures especially with Louis Theroux.

17) What music do you enjoy listening to?

Beyonce, Gregory & The Hawk, Snow Patrol, Marina & The Diamonds, The Temper Trap.

18) What is your favourite food?

Cheese, which unfornately is one of the most fattening things to eat. I do love hot foods though like curries and hot pizzas.

19) Where would you most like to visit in the world? (money no object)

Someday I would love to do a multi-stop holiday/tour with my boyfriend to America. Starting with San Francisco then Las Vegas, New York then finishing at Key West.

20) Tell us a secret…

I shamefully sell unwanted presents on Ebay.
