Today’s 20 Questions star is Jane from the blog Modesty Brown. I love this blog. and having had the pleasure of meeting Jane recently, I can truly say she is one of the good ones. Honest, funny, updated frequently, Jane’s posts are always well researched and more detailed than many blogs out there. Start following her now – click here

1)      Why did you start your blog?
I’ve been reading about make up for a long time. I started out posting on Specktra, I graduated on to Youtube videos and then reading blogs. It felt like a natural progression to start my own blog. I also wanted to do it as a little project to keep me occupied. It’s certainly done that!

2)      How long have you been blogging for?
I’m relatively new to it and have been blogging since March of this year. It feels longer though.

3)      What do you enjoy most about blogging?
I enjoy finding out about new things. If it weren’t for reading blogs I wouldn’t have discovered brands like Rouge Bunny Rouge. I also love that people take the time to comment on posts. The beauty blogging community is lovely!

4)      What frustrates you most about blogging?
I frustrate myself, as I’m so slow at writing posts! I like to do plenty of research and that can be very time consuming.

5)      How much time a week do you spend on your blog / reading other people’s blogs?
Oh gosh, I’m not sure I could put a figure on it. Too much probably. I dip in and out during the day and then spend a couple of hours in the evening writing or reading.

6)      What advice do you have for aspiring beauty bloggers?
Be yourself and write about things that interest you. Don’t be afraid to ask more established bloggers for advice. I have gained a lot useful advice from asking questions.

7)      What other hobbies/interests do you have?
I enjoy reading and watching films. I’ve spent quite a lot of time doing family history research but that has taken a bit of a back seat since having the children.

8 )      How many bottles of nail varnish do you own?
I just did a quick tot up and I have 28. It’s more than I thought but at least 12 of these came from recent giveaways so that’s made quite an impact!

9)      Do you set yourself a shopping budget, or do you purchase on an as-and-when basis?
I try to set myself a budget. I’m flexible with it though if a one off opportunity arises. I do have to be sensible about spending, as there’s no sense in being pretty but broke!

10)     What is your favourite make-up brand, and why?
Probably Rouge Bunny Rouge. I don’t have lots of RBR but everything I have is a favourite. I’m never disappointed by the products. The colours and formulations are amazing. I think the packaging and the thoughts behind it are lovely too. If money were no object I’d have lots more (and I’d buy loads more Edward Bess too).

11)          Do you ever leave the house without wearing make-up?
I do leave the house without make up on. I don’t like it very much but there are occasions when I run out of time and just have to dash out of the door.

12)     What is your favourite beauty product and why?
My favourite beauty product is Oil of Olay Complete Care Multi-Radiance cream. Without a great moisturiser I don’t think any amount of make up will make me look good. I love the finish this gives me too, it gives a luminescence and I’ve often skipped foundation altogether when I have this on.

13)     What is your favourite nail varnish of all time? (yep, only one!)
Ooh, now that’s a toughie. I would have said either Metro Chic or Dulce de Leche. In terms of old favourites though that I keep going back to it has to be Chanel Rouge Noir. I loved Pulp Fiction and I longed for this polish when it was first released. I bought it years later and it is still a firm favourite. I most often wear this on my toes

14)     Tell us about the best holiday you’ve ever been on.
The best holiday I’ve ever been on was my honeymoon to Majorca. We had planned something much more exotic pre-children but James was 9 months old so a safari was no longer on the cards. We stayed in Puerta Pollensa and although it might not have been what I’d dreamt of it was a lovely time and I have extremely fond memories.

15)     What would be your ideal day off?
This is tricky. I’m a stay at home Mum so most people consider every day is a day off for me! My ideal day without the children though would be spent relaxing, reading books and a trip to the cinema. I’d probably slip in a bit of make up shopping too, of course.

16)     What is your favourite TV show?
It’s probably Bones or Waking the Dead. I’m a fan of forensic science type stuff and crime drama generally.

17)       What music do you enjoy listening to?
I love listening to Air, Daft Punk, Elbow and Zero 7. I also enjoy listening to a bit of Indie stuff to transport me back to my University days. My secret guilty pleasure is Goldie Looking Chain and Queen.

18)     What is your favourite food?
Curry.  I love vegetable and chickpea curries. I really like lots of little side dishes. Yummy!

19)     Where would you most like to visit in the world? (money no object)
If money were no object I’d take the whole family to Australia. My Mum was born in Queensland and a lot of family still live over there, including her Dad. I’ve only been once and would really love to go back.

20)       Tell us a secret…
I can play the flute and really did spend some of my teenage summers at band camp!
